Nexen's RPS System Now Available As A Packaged Linear Actuator

The RPS System is now available as a packaged solution through Olympus Controls one of Nexen's precision motion control distributors.

It is packaged to act like a cylinder with the drive portion stationary and the rack having threaded ends for attaching to the load. It provides a combination of speed, load capacity, and positional accuracy that other packaged linear actuators like ball screws, traditional rack and pinion, belt drives, and linear motors, can't.

The actuator is designed to be easy to service if it is ever required.

This example is capable of:

  • 800 lbs of dynamic thrust, 1600 lbs of static loading and other sizes are capable of much higher loads
  • Maximum speed in this example is about 3 m/s and limited by the motor and reducer even though the RPS system is capable of higher speeds.
  • Positional accuracy is ±30 microns, repeatability ±5 microns, and backlash less than 3.2 microns.
