Nexen’s extensive product lines include clutches, brakes, clutch-brakes, and caliper brakes used in many applications. Some applications require more torque and a lower-duty cycle; others need less torque but a higher-duty cycle. At the same time, there are applications that require low dust or high cooling capacity and continuous duty cycles, like tension applications. Nexen has created a range of friction facings for each product that uses facings to cover a wide variety of applications. Here are the most common facings types and how they are typically used.
- Red: Standard coefficient facing. This facing is usually ideal for most power transmission applications and provides a good balance between torque and facing life. Catalog torque ratings are typically based on standard facings
- Green: Low coefficient facing (LOCO) has approximately 40% less torque and 50% more life than a standard facing. This facing is used most often in constant slip applications, providing smooth torque at low speeds
- Purple: High coefficient facing (HICO) has approximately 40% more torque and 50% less life than a standard facing. It is typically used in holding or infrequent start/stop applications
- Blue: Ultra-LOCO has approximately 60% less torque than standard facings and is used for constant slip and tension control applications
- Other facings are available for special applications, like low dust or very high-duty cycles
