Precision Rotary Motion

Nexen’s Precision Rotary Motion technology is a combination of very high precision rotary drive systems, high torque rotary brakes, and mechanical torque limiters, all delivering zero backlash. Nexen’s Roller Pinion Gears and Gear Segments (RPG) and fully integrated Precision Ring Drive Systems (CRD and PRD) drive rotary motion with very high precision and zero backlash. Nexen Servo Brakes (SBP) and Indexer Brakes (I*300) provide spring engaged, air released, zero backlash holding and emergency stopping in rotary applications. The zero backlash Mechanical Torque Limiters (MTL) reduce machine downtime caused by torque overloads.

Precision Ring Drive Systems

Two versions are available both based on Nexen’s innovative Roller Pinion technology. The Compact Ring Drive (CRD) system comes complete with a precision grade bearing and drive mechanism in a sealed housing. Three configurations allow the CRD to be optimized for high speed, high torque or both to optimize performance in a small space. The Precision Ring Drive (PRD) consists of a precision grade preloaded cross roller bearing, roller pinion system and precision gearbox offering load capacity capabilities to 1575 kN. The CRD and PRD take rotary positioning to a higher level of performance, providing unmatched positional accuracy, high rigidity and acceleration, low maintenance, and long life.

The Roller Pinion Gear System (RPG) is based on an innovative pinion consisting of bearing-supported rollers and a unique tooth profile. Solutions including gears, gear segments and geared bearings can be configured to fill your needs. This unique drive system provides very high positional accuracy, zero backlash, no cumulative error, low-velocity ripple, very high speeds, high rigidity, low noise, low maintenance, corrosion resistance, and long life. This opens up new machine design possibilities and provides the capability to achieve much higher levels of performance.

Ball Screw brakes provide reliable holding in a compact package. During a power loss the motor has no holding torque allowing the ball screw to back drive and the load to drop. Ball screw brakes connect to the machined end of the ball screw to prevent back driving, load drops and equipment damage during a power loss. Holding force up to 125 Nm (1100 in-lbs.)

Servo Motor Brakes

Servo Motor Brakes

Spring engaged, air released servo motor brakes mount to the shaft end of servo motors up to 20 horsepower. The brake acts as an adapter between dissimilar mounting features. The brake bore accepts the motor shaft that is fixed inside the brake with a split hub/shaft collar. This brake is a high-torque, zero backlash device.

Indexer Brakes

Indexer Brakes

Nexen’s I-300 brake is designed for zero backlash holding and emergency stopping making it ideal for indexers and positioning systems. The spring engaged, air released, patented braking element locks and holds the shaft in position without any displacement or reversing of the load. It is flange or shaft mounted and has a keyless compression bushing shaft connection for easy installation and IP67 rated when flange mounted.

Harmonic Gearheads offer true zero backlash, high reduction ratios of 50/80/100/120:1, and high load capacity in a very compact package. They utilize the best cross roller bearing technology for the highest rigidity and load capacities. They are available in ISO9409 flange mount or with an integrated RPS pinion. The integrated pinion models offer the ultimate in RPS system performance and simplify installation.

Mechanical Torque Limiters

Mechanical Torque Limiters

Mechanical torque limiters are single or multi-position, ball/detent interface torque overload devices. They protect drive and driven components from damage associated with torque overloads. Backlash free torque transmission is accomplished with a series of balls nested in hardened detents in the units interface. Possible torque ranges from 40-24,000 in-lbs. Overloads are detected with a proximity sensor that signals the drive to shut down. High-speed applications use a full disengagement model that free wheels when an overload occurs.Re-engagement is done manually by jogging into position. Rotary motion accessories include ISO adapters, ISO preloaders, and gear segment alignment tools for the Roller Pinion Gear System. Gear tooth lubrication is available for both the Roller Pinion Gear System and Precision Ring Drive Indexer. Accessories for pneumatic brakes include 3 way valves, filters, lubricators, regulators.
